Planet Fitness Complaint

A total Rip off - Gym

When I joined Planet Fitness in Torrington, CT, I was told by the manager that the fee for joining was
$29 and that it would be $10/month. Little did I know that there would be another fee deducted from my credit card for yet another $29 two weeks later. That is a rip off and misrepresentation of the facts. Sounds like a lawyer might need to check up on these franchises.

Actually, I do read anything I sign, and went to cancel my membership here in NYC and was aware of the buyout fee. The employee did not give me the form to sign for cancellation but entered in my new billing information - I am now stuck paying for 3 months that I never set foot in that place. Good thing I won't do it again either - it's true, someone needs to investigate this chain and their shady practices.

I went into Planet Fitness a month ago. I asked to see a contract and they said they couldn't let me walk out with one so that I could read it at home carefully for review. That sounds shady! Why wouldn't they give any written information (with fine print of course) to review?

Perhaps you should read what you signed. When you signed up the $29 was not just to cover the annual rate guarantee fee....what you paid was: a PRO RATE of the annual fee & a PRO RATE of the monthly fee. Since you were clearly close to the Oct. 1st deduction of $29 for the annual fee your $29 start up fee was composed of very little going toward that fee and more so going towards the monthly fee until you would be debited for the next month. READ YOUR AGREEMENT. It will state the day in which your payment will be deducted each month, the date on which your annual fee is deducted (Oct. 1st $29 for 10AF members & June 1st $39 for black card members). Not to mention at the top of the agreement just below where you put your contact information it states signup fees pro-rate start up & total.

Do you often sign things without reading them? I'm willing to bet you're often dismayed by companies lack of disclosure, only to find out you were given a piece of paper outlining the unfortunate event that you had to endure.
